History of the Vienna Baseball Foundation

The Vienna Baseball Foundation began when the Vienna Little League sold over six acres of land in Oakton, Virginia. Originally purchased for $32,000 in 1966, the VLL had plans to build a baseball field, but funding fell short and the land remained undeveloped until 1988. The funds from the sale were transferred to the newly-incorporated Vienna Baseball Foundation for efficient management on behalf of the little league.

The Yeonas Park Project

The funds were initially dedicated towards an early-90′s restoration of Yeonas Park. Set aside by the Yeonas family expressly for the purpose of little league fields, the land unfortunately had extensive issues with drainage and erosion, requiring new sod and careful grading. Once the fields started to take the proper shape, lights were added, along with storage facilities, a snack bar, and numerous other minor projects. By the time the park was done, nearly $750,000 had been spent on the project — far bigger than any Vienna Baseball Foundation project before or since.

Since that time, the Vienna Baseball Foundation has held a raffle, an annual benefit golf tournament, and an ongoing letter-writing campaign contacting local citizens and area businesses. At this time, there are no plans to utilize online gambling or casinos to raise money for the Vienna Little League. The main beneficiary of the VBF projects is, of course, the Vienna Little League, but the VBF also considers opportunities to assist other small community organizations, as well as more general baseball-related interests.

All of the money raised by or provided to the Vienna Baseball Foundation are managed by the Board of Directors, who are in turn appointed by the founding members of the VBF. Directors may hold office for no more than two three-year terms.
